Great Collard Green Recipe
Most people believe that green foods are great as well as collard greens. They are one of several cruciferous vegetables which are in the same group with kale and spring greens. Being in the same group, the collard green and kale are similar. Collard green can be found in many areas of the country. They can be boiled, sauteed or braised.
Collard greens are powerful to lower your cholesterol because they are low in calories. They are also rich in vitamins and minerals. Eating collard green is a great way to strengthen the bones, inhabited neuron damage and as mucous membrane protection. - 2 lbs collard greens (tough stems discarded, leaves chopped)
- 1 large garlic clove (minced)
- 2 tablespoons medium onion (chopped)
- 2 teaspoons bacon fat
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon dark sesame oil
- A pinch chili pepper flakes
- A couple pinches of salt
- A couple pinches of sugar
- Barbecue sauce (optional)
- In a large skillet with a tight fitting cover, melt bacon fat and heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Saute the onion until transparent for several minutes.
- Add garlic and cook until fragrant or about 30 seconds.
- Mix in the collard green, sesame oil, salt, sugar and chili pepper flakes. Cover it and cook until tender, about 8 to 5 minutes.
- Serve it with barbecue sauce for the best taste.
One thing that you have to keep in mind is the 4th direction of this collard green recipe. If you cook young collard greens, you have to note that they will cook up relatively quickly. However, if you get older collard greens, it may take upwards of 45 minutes to make it tender.
